  1. Why join BPW Saskatoon?

BPW Saskatoon provides a culture where members are inspired to lead and grow through mentorship and professional development opportunities. By joining BPW Saskatoon, you will connect with like-minded women in our community while expanding your knowledge of issues affecting women and participate in improving women’s status. Members become part of a larger organization as their local membership also includes membership with BPW Canada and BPW International.

  1. What are the criteria for being a member of BPW Saskatoon?

Women who are employed or in transition, retirees, young career women, and students who share common objectives for all working women. We are also very open to having men in our community join BPW Saskatoon, in support of women!

  1. How much are membership fees?

NEW MEMBERS: $175 for first year plus $3 processing fee.
RENEWALS: $150 per year with a $3 processing fee.

  1. What are my fees used for?

Portions of the membership fees are remitted to the provincial, national, and international BPW federations.

  1. How many meetings are held per year and when?

Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month from September – June (10 months of the year). Meetings are primarily held in the evening after work at 5:15pm, and occasionally are held during the lunch hour at 11:30am.

  1. Where are meetings held?

Downtown Saskatoon at The Saskatoon Club.

  1. How many events are held per year? What are they?

Events are held each year and vary between evening and lunch functions. BPW Saskatoon hosts an annual Silent Auction & Fashion Show each December that raises money for educational bursaries to assist mature local women in reaching their dreams. Other annual events include a Leadership Luncheon, which is held each Fall, and is designed to connect emerging and established women leaders in our community. An event surrounding International Women’s Day and the awarding of BPW Saskatoon’s educational bursaries are held each year, in addition to various luncheons focused on professional development opportunities.   1. What can I expect at one of your monthly meetings?

An opportunity to connect with like-minded women in your community. In addition to great fellowship and a delicious meal, monthly meetings provide professional development opportunities, guest speakers, advocacy efforts, and updates from the BPW Saskatoon Board regarding the direction of the organization and what is to come.

 

  1. How do I apply for a BPW Saskatoon bursary or an Athena Award?

Application forms for BPW Saskatoon bursaries can be found on the website by Clicking Here. Applications must be printed, completed, and sent to BPW Saskatoon at the address noted on the form. The deadline to submit applications for the 2014/2015 academic year is January 14th, 2015.

  1. I am just starting my career and I am looking for ways to become involved in the business community in Saskatoon. What does BPW have to offer?

BPW Saskatoon offers a wide range of opportunities to introduce you into the local Saskatoon business community. Each monthly meeting provides an environment to connect with like-minded women of all ages in your community who you can learn and receive mentorship from. BPW Saskatoon’s annual Leadership Luncheon, hosted each Fall, also provides an excellent means of connecting emerging leaders, like yourself, with established women leaders. There is also an opportunity to become involved in Young BPW of Saskatoon which is made up of members who are 35 years of age and under. The purpose of Young BPW is to develop activities of interest for young members and make BPW meaningful to them in order to increase engagement.   1. I am retired but I am still interested in connecting and networking with the business community.  Would BPW be a good fit for me?

Absolutely! BPW Saskatoon is a diverse group of local women and we even have members who have been with us for 65 years! Our members come from all ages and stages in their careers – whether it be just entering the workforce or retiring. Be sure to contact a member of the BPW Saskatoon Board on the Contact Us page to inquire about attending our next monthly meeting!

  1. What is the time commitment for members?

BPW Saskatoon works to be very flexible with your schedule. We encourage you to join us at every monthly meeting; however, we certainly understand women’s busy schedules! We always say “you get out as much as you put in” so we also encourage members’ involvement in BPW Saskatoon Committees; however, it is not mandatory. Your time commitment is very dependent on how involved you would like to become with the organization, whether you solely want to attend monthly meetings or are interested in joining Committees. The flexibility is yours!

  1. How can I get more involved with BPW Saskatoon?

The best way to become fully involved and engaged with BPW Saskatoon is by joining Committees. The types of Committees available range from event organizers, to tending to the needs of younger members, to influencing the way that BPW Saskatoon markets itself to the community. There is sure to be a Committee that aligns with your interests! Joining a Committee allows you to meet and really get to know your fellow BPW members. Not only do you expand your network in this way, but you also make a difference in the operations of BPW Saskatoon, bettering the organization now and for the future!
